Apple Cinnamon Turmeric Slices

2 medium apples (choosing a type of apple that is firm and not too juicy works best like Granny Smith)
1 tablespoon of Ceylon cinnamon*
1 tablespoon of turmeric*
1/2 teaspoon of Real salt*

Cut the apples into thin slices, don’t worry about removing seeds or cores just slice right through them. Then mix the cinnamon, turmeric, and salt together on a small plate. Drop the apple slices into the mixture one at a time. Dust off any extra spices so they a lightly coated. Place the slices on your dehydrator tray spaced out with a bit of breathing room between them. Dehydrate at 155 degrees for five hours *Note if your horse is a bit of a picky eater you may want to only coat one side of the apples on your first batch so they are not too spiced up for those with more of a plane palate.

This recipe makes about one tray in the dehydrator so if you want to make more simply double or triple the recipe. Sometimes when I’m making these I will make a whole three-pound bag of apples at once. I store the extra dried slices in a couple of mason jars till I take them to the barn to be devoured. As you would guess I’m pretty popular with the horses. For other fun recipes you can whip up while you’ve got the dehydrator going, head over to my post all about making your own horse treats
