A Love Letter
This Valentine’s Day I’m writing a love letter to all the non-horsey significant others out there. As horse people, we know that we are not always easy to love. I want you to know just how much you’re appreciated and how grateful we are to have you in our lives.
Dear Non-horsey Significant Others,
I’m writing you this letter because I want you know just how rare and beautiful you are and how lucky we are to have you in our lives.
Let me start by saying your hard work does not go unnoticed. The level of dedication and patience you put into fueling our horse crazy dreams is commendable.
Pitching in with chores, cleaning stalls, packing the trailer, and fixing basically everything, there should be an award for that type of commitment. Especially considering its all for a dream that isn’t your own.
You never judge our meticulous need to have things be just right for our horses. When our love of horses compels us to take extreme measures like moving across the country. You’re there for us driving a thousand miles each way to bring us flowers and say “I love you”.
You put up with barn smells on every item we own and still willingly go out in public with us no matter how filthy we are. Somehow you always find understanding for our horrendous time management skills. Yes, we know two hours is not the same as four and a half hours- your tolerance in this area is beyond appreciated.
Besides time and effort, signing on to love an equestrian also comes with financial baggage. We pass up vacations and fancy things, heck sometimes we even pass up food so our horses can have the best care possible. It takes a special kind of person to understand our equine devotion. You are that special person.
Even with all this energy being poured into our passion the road is not easy. Yet somehow you’re always ready with a hug and just the right words to put our minds at ease, keeping our horse worries from getting the best of us. Fueling our ambition and encouraging us to go for it. And believing in us even when we don’t believe in ourselves.
We are better people because of your love. Thank you for being your amazing selves.
Insightfully with all my heart,
Becky
Ps. Ken if you’re reading this thank you for all of the above and more. You’re the best! I LOVE YOU!!!
